Classic Kale Chips

October 5, 2021
Jump to Recipe

If you're chip-obsessed like I am, these kale chips are a life saver... There's nothing better than crunching on some lightly-salted chips, but unfortunately they tend not to be the healthiest snack. Then along came kale chips! I first tried making these over 10 years ago, however I mustn't have had a very good recipe as they didn't turn out tasty at all. So I didn't get into it at all, and just thought of it as one of those healthy alternatives that aren't at all good :(

But then! Just last year, my housemate and his partner made them and let me try some and holy cow! They were crunchy and amazing and delicious and DEFINITELY a suitable alternative to chips!

Another great part about these is you can try different flavourings too. Maybe you could go with some paprika, or peri peri salt, a touch of turmeric, or a sprinkle of rosemary!

Dietary Requirements:

Kale chips are suitable for just about every major dietary requirement!

Kale is entirely Low FODMAP.
It is of course suitable for those with a lactose intolerance, and who are gluten free.
It belongs to the Brassicaceae family, and therefore is nightshade free.
And those following a pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan diet can enjoy this healthy snack.

Therefore it ticks all the boxes! (As well as the super yummy and super healthy boxes :P )

Classic Kale Chips

Prep Time: 5 mins

Cooking Time: 10 mins

Serves: 2

An incredibly healthy, vitamin-C loaded alternative to chips!

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of kale
  • drizzle of olive oil
  • sprinkle of salt

Method

Step 1:
Preheat oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with baking paper

Step 2:
Carefully cut the chunky stems off of each kale leaf

Step 3:
Tear kale into chip sized chunks, about 3-5cm round, then place in a bowl and lightly coat with olive oil and salt. Mix around so the oil and salt is spread evenly.

Step 4:
Lay kale pieces spread out across the baking tray and cook for about 10-15 minutes, careful not to let them burn! Keep an eye on them from 10 minutes onward. Enjoy 🙂
